Organizations Partner to Advance Mental Health Care
Even before COVID-19, the mental health system of care in the US was fragmented and overwhelmed. During the pandemic, an uptick in mental health issues and the more-apparent disparities in the mental health care system have created an urgent need for change. A group of 13 organizations has partnered to take collective action to reduce barriers and increase access to mental health services. The coalition includes National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), American Psychiatric Association, American Psychological Association, and other organizations representing some of the nation’s most vulnerable populations.
The coalition will share resources and skills to improve outcomes and access to care, and to shift perceptions around mental health care with a focus on early intervention. They will work with state and local governments to examine factors that impact mental health, such as housing, transportation, and employment, and to institute policies that value mental health. The coalition’s goal is to address discrimination and invest in integrative solutions to transform delivery of mental health care.
