eFundYourHealth Helps Patients Access CAM

While Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) treatments are often not fully covered by a patient’s insurance, the crowdfunding website eFundYourHealth is helping patients access CAM to treat chronic illnesses.

CAM therapies, such as acupuncture, nutrition, and massage, are not usually utilized by conventional medical practitioners. Studies have shown CAM to be beneficial in the treatment of chronic illnesses, including cancer, chronic pain, gastrointestinal disorders, and depression/anxiety.

According to statistics from the National Care Center for Complementary and Integrative Medicine, 38% of adult Americans use CAM.  However, most individuals struggle to pay for such treatments since insurance will only partially, at most, cover these therapies, leaving patients to pay out-of-pocket for alternative care. A 2012 analysis found that American spent more than $30 billion out-of-pocket on alternative medical systems and products.

Driven by individuals who have found relief and remission by adding CAM treatments to their care routine, eFundYourHealth is a platform where those suffering from chronic illness can create campaigns that anyone may donate to.

Within 21 days of creating a campaign, the creator will receive a debit card which can only be used for alternative medical care. eFundYourHealth prevents fraud by tracking each purchase made with an issued debit card and employing an independent auditing company to review those purchases.

Unlike other crowdfunding websites, eFundYourHealth allows both individual and corporate donations to either individual campaigns or to a broad spectrum of sufferers, such as those with breast cancer. These broader donations are referred to as grant funds. Once campaigners reach a certain amount, matching grant funds are applied, doubling the total available to the campaigner.
