The Integrative Health Coaching Certificate Program
The Integrative Health Coaching certificate program from Salem University’s Integrative Health Institute (IHI) is an approved program of the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC). This 6-credit-hour graduate-level certificate teaches you the core coaching skills you need to work with a diverse set of clients and patients. In addition, graduates of the program are eligible to apply for the HWC Certifying Examination to become National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coaches (NBC-HWC).
The IHC program teaches you the fundamental principles of integrative health coaching consisting of two 3-credit-hour courses that take you through modules that include:
- Health and Wellness Coaching Fundamentals and Planning
- Self-Awareness and Self-Discovery for Better Coaching
- Building a Client-Centered Relationship
- Theories and Principles of Behavior Change and Motivation
- Conducting Coaching Sessions Start to Finish
- Health and Wellness Coaching Professional Conduct, Ethics and Legal Considerations
- Health and Wellness Coaching for Diversity
- Health and Wellness Coaching for Nutrition & Weight Management
- Health and Wellness Coaching for Integrative Fitness
- Health and Wellness Coaching for Stress Management
- Health and Wellness Coaching for Chronic Disease
Why Health Coaching?
Health coaching is a process of partnering with clients and inspiring them to maximize their personal and professional well-being through self-directed lasting changes. Health coaches may work alongside health professionals, in physician’s offices, in digital health, in community-based programs, or as an entrepreneur. It’s a profession that combines coaching psychology including behavior change theories, motivational strategies, and health education and promotion theories with wellness, nutrition, self-awareness, and more.
Health Coach Candidates
IHI’s Integrative Health Coaching certificate is designed for a variety of professionals who currently hold a bachelor’s degree and especially those who in healthcare, wellness, athletics, caregiving, and more! The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 17% increase in jobs in the health education field from 2021 to 2031. With an estimated 6 in 10 Americans managing a chronic illness — a number that’s growing even more in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic — the need for skilled integrative health professionals is expected to continue.
Format
Synchronous (3 hours/week)/asynchronous; synchronous hours are mandatory 3 hours per week over the 8 weeks; times may vary as new courses are offered; the first cohort will occur on Tuesday and Thursday 1.5 hours each evening from 6-8pm EST
